During the past 10 years, Matthijs has been active as an impact investor through his involvement with the Noaber Foundation. After joining Noaber Ventures as an investment analyst in 2005, he eventually became the director of the Noaber Foundation in 2011. Within the Noaber Foundation, he led the transition of Noaber from an impact-first investor with a more horizontal focus to a finance-first impact investor focusing on healthcare technology. Matthijs has been involved in the incubation, development and growth, and exit of several healthcare technology companies, such as VitalHealth Software, Ecolane (sold to National Express), and Abakus (sold to Winbase).

With a background in International Economics, Matthijs started his career as a consultant at Accenture, advising multinational companies on technology-related change management processes. After his time at Accenture, Matthijs worked as a consultant at engineering firm Royal Haskoning, where he completed jobs for the World Bank, EBRD, FMO, and other international development financing institutions in developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, with a focus on financial and institutional assessments of water companies.

Matthijs brings a wealth of experience in impact investing within healthcare technology to the NextStage Investments team. Through his background and ongoing involvement in the Noaber Foundation he will create and foster a productive working relationship with the Noaber Foundation’s network, for the benefit of NextStage Investments and its portfolio companies.
